Advanced Nurse Practitioners are registered nurses who have completed extra training and academic qualifications, to master’s level, to be able to clinically assess, diagnose, refer and treat patients who present with undiagnosed or undifferentiated problems.

They can assess symptoms, treat minor health problems, infections, and minor injuries and prescribe medications where necessary.  They can also manage more complicated and complex problems, including long term conditions. 

Advanced Nurse Practitioners can help with:-

• Complex patient reviews/assessments
• Diagnosing acute and chronic conditions
• Treatment of minor illness
• Prescribing and reviewing medication
• Evaluating treatment plans
• Managing conditions holistically
• Referral to secondary care, if required
• Ensure joined-up care for all patients 

Advanced Nurse Practitioners work closely with GPs, to help alleviate the pressure on the GPs and provide high quality care and on the day appointments.
